  • Biodiversity: Chopta is part of the Kedarnath Wildlife Sanctuary and is home to a diverse range of flora and fauna—including the musk deer, the Monal (Uttarakhand’s state bird), and numerous bird species—making it a paradise for bird enthusiasts.
  • Tungnath Temple: Tungnath, the world’s highest Shiva temple, is situated at an altitude of 3,680 meters. The trek from Chopta to Tungnath covers a distance of approximately 3.5 kilometers and is quite easy, making it ideal for beginners.
  • Chandrashila Trek: Chandrashila Peak lies 1.5 kilometres beyond Tungnath. From here, one gets a magnificent view of prominent peaks such as Nanda Devi, Trishul, Chaukhamba, and Kedar. The Chandrashila trek is famous for its sunrise views, when golden rays illuminate the surrounding mountains.
  • Deoria Tal: A 2.5-kilometre trek from Sari village—22 kilometres from Chopta—leads you to the enchanting Deoria Tal. It is a high-altitude lake that reflects the snow-capped peaks. The tranquil waters and scenic beauty make it an excellent spot for photographers.
  • Camping and Stargazing: Chopta is an excellent place for camping under the stars. Clear skies and low light pollution make it an ideal spot for stargazing and astrophotography.

  • By Road: Chopta is about 450 km from Delhi and 160 km from Rishikesh. Regular buses and taxis operate from cities like Haridwar, Rishikesh, and Dehradun.
  • By Train: The nearest railway station is Haridwar or Rishikesh, approximately 200 km from Chopta. From Haridwar, you can take a taxi or bus.
  • By Air: The closest airport is Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun, located around 220 km away. From there, a cab or bus can take you to Chopta.
  • Packing: Even in summers, Chopta can get chilly, so pack warm clothing. In winters, ensure you have proper trekking gear, especially shoes for walking on snow.
  • Connectivity: Mobile connectivity is limited in Chopta. BSNL has the best network coverage in the area, but it’s advisable to inform your loved ones before heading into remote areas.
  • Respect Nature: Chopta is a fragile ecosystem. Carry your trash back with you, avoid using plastic, and respect the local culture and wildlife.
  • Kedarnath Temple: Just a few hours away from Chopta is the holy Kedarnath Temple, one of the 12 Jyotirlingas.
  • Rudraprayag: Known for the confluence of the Alaknanda and Mandakini rivers, this town holds great religious significance.
